Tigers Film Screens at Harold Park Hotel

NRL Grand Finals week will see a free screening of a short film about Balmain Tigers Legend, the late Laurie Nichols, on Tuesday, 28 September at the Harold Park Hotel, Ross Street Glebe. Entitled Number One Fan, the documentary celebrates the life of this renowned mischief-maker and larrikin, with Laurie’s famous friends recounting one of rugby league’s funniest stories involving Laurie, a train seat and a cat in a basket.

The film begins with the declaration of Laurie as Number One Fan at the time of the Tigers 1969 Grand Final and ends with Laurie’s great fight to save the Balmain Tigers during the Super League war. Balmain identities who appear in the film include Wayne Pearce, Benny Elias, Sid Williams (scorer of the winning try in 1969), Arthur Beetson, Ray Chesterton, Alan Jones, locals, and players. (For more information about the film go to www.balmaintiger.com)

The show also includes an encore presentation of five short films selected as audience favourites over the six months of weekly screenings which have been running at the pub under the name “Harold’s Shorts”. These range from comedies to animation to serious drama. The stories behind the films are often just as entertaining, as revealed in a Q&A with the filmmakers hosted by ‘Aussie Film Icon’ Garry Waddell. The venue is ideal, a relaxed pub atmosphere with an excellent projector and sound system.

Harold’s Shorts is a free event, kicking off at 8 pm. There are no bookings, so patrons are advised to come early to be sure of a seat and to take advantage of the great pub meals. DVDs are available for purchase on the night.
