BACKGROUND
JANE MILLS - CHAIR
Jane Mills is Senior Research Associate at AFTRS where she was Head of Screen Studies from 1995 - 2001. She has a production background in television and documentary film and is the author of books on feminism, human rights and linguistics. Jane is a founder-member of 'Watch on Censorship', a Board Director of the Sydney Film Festival and of Cinewest, a screen culture organisation supporting diverse communities in Western Sydney. She is the Cineliteracy Consultant tor the Priority School Funding Program (NSW DET) and a Doctoral Candidate at the Centre for Cultural Research at the University of Western Sydney. She is the Series Editor of Australian Screen Classics (Currency Press/ScreenSound and her most recent book is The Money Shot: Cinema, Sin and Censorship (Pluto Press, Australia. 2001).
JONATHAN HOLMES
Jonathan Holmes has been making front-line television current affairs programs (and the occasional TV documentary) for almost 35 years. He has been Executive Producer of ABC's Four Corners, Foreign Correspondent and The 7.30 Report, and well as Head of ABC TV Documentaries. He has worked as a freelance reporter/producer all over the world, including a post at the ABC Washington Bureau in 1998. Since January 2003 he has been back at Four Corners as a reporter. Jonathan has been a finalist in the Walkley Awards three times - most recently this year, for his Four Corners investigation into corruption in the Victoria Police Drug Squad, "Speed Trap".
CARMELA BARANOWSKA
Carmela Baranowska studied a Master of Arts at the University of Melbourne and Documentary filmmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts School of Film and Television. She has been working in conflict and post-conflict zones in South East Asia for over ten years and has made films in East Timor and Afghanistan. Her recently completed "Taliban Country" for SBS Dateline is a finalist in the IF Independent Spirit Awards, in the Walkley Awards (Asia-Pacific section) and has been commended in the Investigative reporting section of the Walkleys. Carmela is currently completing "Welcome to Independence" a feature length documentary set in East Timor following its first years of independence.
CHRIS TUCKFIELD
Chris Tuckfield is a writer/director mixing genres to create dramatic films distilled from human experience. He is a directing graduate from Australia's 3 year AFTRS program and holds an M Phil from Cambridge University. His films include Flitters, Plus ca Change, The Journey, Cenotaph, A Breath and Renzo Piano - Piece by Piece. All have won awards and screened collectively at more than seventy film festivals, with more than eighty international television sales. He has also directed music videos and commercial projects.
