Screening of the documentary GIVEN followed by a Q & A with Producer Paige Livingston. Given is the story of a legacy that takes one unique family (legendary surfers Daize and Aamion Goodwin) on an adventure from their home in Kauai around the world. Told through the memories of a 6 year old, Given is about the love and bonds of family, the quest for surf, and the power of a child’s imagination. www.giventhemovie.com

Paige takes us on the journey of the film’s production and the vital decisions (often counter intuitive) that resulted in it’s ultimate success.

PRODUCER – PAIGE LIVINGSTON

Paige Livingston is an award winning creative executive, producer, and director. Her work in the online video and television and documentary industry spans over twenty five years.

At the ABC Paige series produced the acclaimed documentary series Race Around the World, uncovering the talents of John Safran Olivia Russet and Bentley Dean. She was series producer on the inaugural series of Message Stick in the indigenous unit, which ran for 12 years.  While at ABC2, Paige oversaw development and the first two series of Good Game as executive producer.  Paige has also made an animated feature film starring Kodi Smit McPhee called the Adventures of Charlotte and Henry which was distributed internationally. In 2009, Paige was Head of Creative at Disney Online Originals in Burbank California.  More recently, Paige has returned to her love of documentaries producing Given, a feature documentary shot in 15 countries and narrated by a 6 year old boy. http://www.giventhemovie.com/

MODERATOR – RUTH HESSEY

Ruth is a writer/director whose documentary film “Waste Not”, has been translated into 4 languages, and screened in over 30 countries. Previously she also directed “The Mural” (distributed by Ronin Films) made with indigenous students at Rooty Hill High School. Ruth has transitioned from a career in journalism (SMH, TimeOut Sydney, Vogue, ABC Radio National, 702) to work in environment advocacy, hosting a radio program, creating campaign videos, websites, and educational guides. Ruth has several documentary and drama projects in development.

CHAIR – PRODUCER TOM ZUBRYCKI

Tom Zubrycki has earned an international reputation for his substantial and widely-respected body of documentaries. He works mainly in an observational style and his films are strongly character-driven. His credits include Waterloo (1981), The Diplomat (2000), Molly & Mobarak (2003), The Hungry Tide (2011). Hope Road – his latest film, is close to completion.  Tom also works as a producer mentoring early career filmmakers, runs master-classes at AFTRS and is a founding member of Ozdox. He is currently researching distribution options for creative authored documentaries – especially new streaming platforms.
